Seasons changing
all around me.
Fooled me again.
Two years in a
row. Up early
for a long run
when I heard the
pitter patter
of a steady
morning shower.
But it can’t be.
Unexpected.
No other signs
beyond the sound.
I actually
took off my gloves
and lifted my
hands skyward just
to test what I
thought I heard.
When suddenly
I remembered:
It is the leaves
falling like rain.
It’s magical.
I closed my eyes
and soaked in the
soft melody.
You should go to
the Grand Canyon.
And Yellowstone.
And all of the
national parks.
But I tell you,
in my journeys,
there’s nothing like
listening to
leaves fall like rain.
The seasons change:
Election night.
Revolutions.
Relocations.
Milestone birthdays.
Doctor visits.
Loved ones passing.
The Byrds sang there
is a season
that turns, turns, turns.
That season is
happening now.
Today, I am
celebrating
changing seasons.
May our world be
better than it
has been lately.
I close my eyes
and listen to
the leaves falling
all around me.
